Initiated as a hardcore punk rock band The Offspring intended to revive the genre. This band has played everything ranging from pop, hardcore to skate punk along with melodic hardcore and alternative rock. This versatile play of rock and punk was not just of great quality but also extensive outreach. The band successfully rose to become one of the best-selling punk rock acts of today. This outfit started in 1984 as the brainchild of Bryan Dexter Holland and Greg K. As high school cross-country team acquaintances that couldn’t make their way into a punk rock concert and decided to team up and play it themselves. Together the duo discovered a lifelong connection that began with the music of the garage band Manic Subsidal. From here the band added new member Kevin Noodles Wasserman alongside a substitution line-up of members to play other support instruments. This is when multi-instrumentalist Marcus Parrish happened to the band. His contribution allowed Manic Subsidal to deliver Party Animal: We Got Power II (1984). This was released by Mystic Records, after Parrish left the band for personal ventures.
 
The Offspring took form in 1997 when their self released single 7" Blackball/I'll be Waiting. Their record company Black Label became an iconic Offspring joke that mocked at their inability to find a sponsor. This single was special as Dexter, Noodles, Greg were joined by James Lilja on Drums made it quiet casually and it turned out to be pretty nice. The young Ron Welty joined in 1989 to stay with them for the rest of the ventures. The labels, Nemesis Records led the band to record the self titled and release it the very year. This release was rather limited in quantity and restrictive in format as a twelve inch vinyl form.
 
The Offspring remained with Nemesis that supported it to produce yet another single titled Baghdad 7. The single was rather impressive compared to any other effort presented before. It was substantial in its quality and earned a high end deal with Epitaph Records. Bad Religion’s guitarist Brett Gurewitz at Epitaph was convinced by Baghdad 7 and he allowed the band to move ahead and record the second success mark Ignition. Ignition hit stands in 1992, and its unprecedented success was the beginning of it all. Ignition allowed the band to realize how big the band already was and it anticipated great returns with a good time investment.
 
The early and mid nineties were the times for grunge, punk and progressive time to flourish. With acts like No Doubt, Pennywise, Rancid, Voodoo Glow Skulls surfacing and gaining popularity as heavyweights of the genre, the band was already shining high. The band introduced its live side to punk fans and was ready to experience their most important rise to fame. It was the groundbreaking hit album Smash that made that band star in a very short time. This record selling album featuring all time favorite hits Come Out and Play, Self Esteem and Gotta Get Away. It is interesting to know that all along the legendary grunge band Nirvana inspired and the band to bring forth what they did; for they created and environment conducive for punk to thrive via grunge’s success.
Post Smash, the band created their own Nitro Records; owned by Holland and K supporting struggling punk rock bands. Under this shell they also re-launched themselves by re-releasing their debut in CD album format titled The Offspring. The band remained fairly active in touring. Ixnay on the Hombre (1997) followed by another phenomenal hit album Americana (1998) established the band as one of the most popular punk rock act of the nineties. The new, millennium saw Conspiracy of One (2000), Splinter (2003) and Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008). Meanwhile Smash, experienced six times RIAA multi-platinum status and took the band to international mainstream. The band was able to make a deep impact on the aspiring punk bands of the nineties leading them to become celebrities of today. Blink182 and Linkin Park are such names.
 
Days Go By (2012) is the band’s latest release and is supported via a nationwide tour. It is time to join the band and see it play punk out and aloud.
