Sacramento Kings is one of the oldest basketball teams in the US. They have been through a lot of ups and downs but they have kept going. The team has a huge fan following especially in the Sacramento area and that’s why Sacramento Kings tickets are sold as soon as they are put up for sale.
The Sacramento Kings play their home games at the famous Power Balance Pavilion .The Sacramento Kings were a team called Rochester Seagrams in the 1920’s based in Rochester, New York. The Rochester Seagrams later changed their name to Rochester Pros and moved to Edgerton Sports Arena in 1942. They were invited to join the NBL for the 1945-46 season but sponsors Seagram didn’t like that proposal and pulled out of the sponsorship.
Founded in 1945 as Royals by Hall of Famer Les Harrison and his brother Jack, the team won the NBL title in its very first season. The Royals won their second title in a row by the end of the next season but lost to Chicago American Gears in the post season finals. The team finished with the best overall record in the league in the next season. Royals moved to Basketball Association of America in 1948 but the NBL and BAA later merged together with their respective teams to form the NBA. Success continued to come for the Royals and they won the NBA title in 1951 beating the New York Knicks by a margin of four games to three. That year still wasn’t a profitable business for the franchise and almost all the players left and Harrisons had to face pressure from the NBA to either sell or relocate to a bigger city.
The franchise moved to Cincinnati in 1957. The team bought players like Maurice Stokes but couldn’t win the title. Stokes had a seizure after hurting his head in a game and the team almost went bust. The Harrisons sold the team to a local group after a lot of star players left the team following the Stokes incident. The franchise went for the title during the 1960’s by signing players like Jerry Lucas, Oscar Robertson but the title remained out of reach. The team again changed ownership and was sold to brothers Jeremy Jacobs and Max Jacobs in 1966 and the franchise just nose dived.

The team was named Kings after its move to Kansas in 1972 and played its home games in Kansas. The franchise ,under the coaching of Cotton Fitzsimmons and players like Otis Birdsong, Phil Ford, Sam Lacey and Scott Wedman, when they won the Midwest Division in 1978-79 season. Birdsong and Wedman left the team for better contracts and the team couldn’t build on its success. It was later sold by the owners to Sacramento interests. The team’s final season in Kansas was the season of 1984-85 before they moved to their current home in Sacramento.

Kings first season in Sacramento was in 1985-86 and the team reached only the first round of the Western Conference playoffs in 1986. The troubles of the first few years of the 1990’s forced the owners to sell the team to the Maloof Family. The new owners bought players like Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Vlade Divas and Jason Williams. The team went on to become playoff contenders during the later part of the 1990’s. During much of the first decade of the 2000’s Sacramento Kings bought players that could win the NBA championship. They won a lot of division and individual titles but they still remain the greatest team never to have won the NBA Championship. The dwindling profits and support from the local business community forced the Maloof family to plan to move the team out of Sacramento to Anaheim. The Maloofs put forward their plans for re-location but in a stunning turn of events the Mayor of the city Kevin Johnson announced that billionaire Ron Burkle was willing to buy the franchise and keep it in Sacramento. The team will play the 2011-2012 season in the city and move to Anaheim if the city of Sacramento and Ron Burkle can’t come up with a substantial plan to solve the issue.

Sacramento Kings, still to this very day remain one of the biggest and most followed teams in the NBA and that is why considering it might just be their last season in the city the fans are buying Sacramento Kings tickets to watch and support their team through these tough times.
