Jonny Lang was born at Fargo, North Dakota, United States on the 29 th of January, 1981. His birth name is Jon Gordon Langseth Jr., but he is popularly known by his stage name, Jonny Lang. This Grammy award winning singer is known for his guitar solos as well as his unique voice, which has widely been compared to a blues veteran of forty years of age. Jonny Lang began hit the music scene in the year 1995. Until the year 1996, he had a group called The Big Bang as his backing group. This was made up of the founding members of another group, which was named the Bad Medicine Blues Band. The members were Jeff Hayenga on the bass guitar, Michael Rey Larson on the drums, and his brother Ted Larsen on the lead guitars. Ted Larson was also called Ted “Lighting Boy” Larsen by the band members. In the year 1995, the group expanded and included other members such as Bruce McCabe, who became their keyboard player. He was impressed with the performance of Jonny Lang, when the band gave a set opening performance for McCabe’s own group called The Hoopsnakes, and decided to become part of The Big Bang.
From the years 1996 until the year 2006, The Big Bang had Billy Thommes on the drums, Doug Nelson on the bass guitar, Bruce McCabe on the keyboards and Paul Diethelm on the guitar, behind Jonny Lang as the lead singer. Donnie La Marca also performed with the band on the keyboards during the years 2003 and 2004, due to the fact that McCabe had to take a temporary leave for some time. In the year 2000, tragedy stuck the band, and Doug Nelson died in a traffic accident. Later, Billy Franze would take his place in the group on the bass guitar. However, in the year 2003, Franze also left and his place was taken up by Jim Anton.
