The name was given in the memory of the Uncas A. Whitaker and his wife Helen F. Whitaker in recognition for the huge amount contributed by them that made it possible to realize the dream. The center opened its door to the general public finally on September 9, 1999 and since then it has been giving many entertainment activities to the locals and visitors.

The complex has three main venues, Sunoco Performance Theater, Select Medical IMAX Theater, and Harsco Science Center. The performance theater boasts of exceptional acoustics, professional light and sound system and a décor to match. The IMAX Theater is a six story 200 seat theater with the largest movie screen in the entire area and a state-of-the-art surround system. It also therefore makes an ideal setting to host a company event. The Science Center offers three floors of imaginative exhibits that make it a unique venue offering scientific fun.
