Ween band is the brainchild of two extremely talented friends Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman. This band was formed in the year 1984. Both Freeman and Melchiondo are more famously known by their pseudonyms Gene Ween and Dean Ween respectively. They are multi-instrumentalist and can fluently play other instruments like banjo, harmonica and violin. The current Ween line-up consists of Dean Ween (vocals and lead guitar), Gene Ween (vocals and rhythm guitars), Claude Coleman (drums), Glenn McClelland (keyboards) and Dave Dreweitz (bass). Ween never limit the music to experimental rock in fact they tend to experiment with various genres like grunge, neo-psychedelia, speed metal, heavy metal, soul, flamenco, country folk and lo-fi.
Ween’s first album was released in 1990 that was released initially by Twin/Tone music but it was re-released in 2001 through Restless Records. Some other popular Ween Albums are The Pod (1991), Chocolate and Cheese (1994), The Mollusk (1997), Craters of the Sac (1999), Shinola, Vol. 1 and their most recent album is La Cucaracha that was released by Rounder Records in the year 2007. Ween has collaborated with a number of famous artists over the last decades such as Mean Ween, Guy Heller, Buddy Sociher, David Sanborn, Pat Frey, Buddy Harman and Jason Fuller. Ween band cites acclaimed musicians like Frank Zappa, Bob Seger, Motorhead, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, David Bowie and Van Helen as their major influences. Some other shows and albums on which the band has performed are Konstars, Beautiful Girls, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Morvern Callar and Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks!
