utah symphony Cities
Utah Symphony of Salt Lake City is counted among the leading symphonies on the US national front that has grown to have vital presence in the country through its unique performances all over the world and its well-recognized recording legacy. It is known for holding one incredible season after another and this season, and this season under current music director Theirry Fischer, its diverse repertoire is featuring the enchanting Utah Symphony Water concert. It is the ultimate most delightful musical homage to the wonders of the sea, from the surrounding mythological mermaids to its adorning swans to violent tempests.
Similar to explorers from olden times, composers too have in their own way have been drawn forever to the mystical expansive nature of water in all its breathtaking forms. Whether it is about braving the storms of Vivaldi and Britten, giving in to the magic of Melusina from Mendelssohn or simply witnessing the famous barge party thrown by King George on the Thames, the audience will find themselves moving through time in this performance, journeying over the majestic rivers and oceans of history. Utah Symphony Water tickets promise a rare glimpse at the possibilities of classic music.
While the Symphony plays more than seventy subscription concerts at home, it travels across the Intermountain West regularly, serving communities of Wyoming, Utah, Idao and Nevada. In 2005, the orchestra took its first European Tour in nineteen years, performing at concert halls in Germany and Austria. In its home city the Symphony performs at Abravanel Hall, which is counted among the world best concert halls, collected several accolades for its extraordinary acoustics as well as architecture. It is there that the upcoming Utah Symphony Water concert too will be held, featuring conductor Nicholas McGegan and violinist Ralph Matson. The program will cover strategically selected pieces by various artists including Mendelssohn’s Die schone Melusine, Sibelius’s Swan of Tuonela from Legends, Vivaldi’s Concerto Violin in E-flat major, Bach’s Concerto No. 1 in A minor with String and Violin Orchestra, Handel’s Suite No. 2 and No.3 from Water Music and Britten’s Four Sea Interludes.
Utah Symphony Water show’s conductor, Nicholas McGegan has been a favorite among both, the orchestras and audiences for performances that coordinate authority and enthusiasm, scholarship and joy, and evangelical exuberance with curatorial responsibility. Over twenty-seven years as music director, he has established San Francisco’s Philharmonia Chorale and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra as a prominent performance ensemble of America. In addition to the attainment of such remarkable feat, he has brought the two institutions on the front of the worldwide historical movement due to extraordinary performances at the International Handel Festival in Gottingen of which he has been artistic director; the Amsterdam Concertgebouw; the London Proms; and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Among his many achievements, McGegan has taught at London’s Royal College of Music, and was appointed an Officer of Most Excellent Order of British Empire in 2010 on the Queen’s Birthday Honors. His many accolades also include a Halle Handel Prize; Order of Merit of State of Lower Saxony in Germany; Medla of Honor from the City of Gottingen; and the official Nicholas McGegan Day, which was announced by San Francisco’s Mayor in recognition of the maestro’s two decades’ outstanding work with Philharmonia Baroque.
Utah Symphony Water performance also features Ralph Matson who became Utah Symphony’s Concertmaster in 1985. He started violin studies with Emily Mutter in Detroit, received his Bachelors of Art degree from Yale College, following which he took his master’s degree from Yale School of Music. His main teachers were Steven Staryk and Joseph Silverstein. He has been a member of Cleveland Orchestra. He has appeared for solo performances not only with Utah Symphony but also with the Minnesota Orchestra, which include collaborations with Pavel Kogan, Keith Lockhart, Joseph Silverstein, Sir Neville MArriner, Leonard Slatkin, and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski. As of 1996, he has also taken part in the renowned Grand Teton Music Festival, where he is currently Concertmaster of Festival Orchestra. Matson and McGegon will be performing quite a concert together so get hold of some cheap Utah Symphony Water tickets, and journey through the oceans and seas with the power of the most beautiful classical notes.
