Usher Raymond IV a.k.a. Usher was born in Dallas, Texas, but grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and had a taste of singing from his early childhood as a member of his local Church choir. Although his grandmother spotted his gift for singing in this early age but it wasn’t till the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, that the gifted singer could hone his skills to become future maestro of R&B music. Another legend was created in St. Louis, Missouri, in April 1973, when Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam or Akon in short was born to a Senegalese percussionist. Unlike Usher, Akon did not have to move to a big city to discover his innate R&B, hip hop, pop and Rap singing skills, as he was taught to play several musical instruments from the very beginning.

Although Akon’s been singing since 1996, he got his first major break with “Locked Up” from his debut album Trouble , released in 2004. His Grammy Award nomination came soon after when a single “Smack That” from his second album Konvicted got released in 2006. He’s worked with who is who of the music industry like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Eminem and Quincy Jones to name a few. Getting back to Usher, it is imperative to mention that Usher found his foothold into the music industry in late 1990s with the release of “Nice and Slow” from his second album My Way . The ball has been rolling for Usher ever since. His album 8701 which got released in 2001 produced the Billboard Hot 100 number – one hits “U Remind Me” and “U Got It Bad”. These albums sold over 8 million copies all over the world, making Usher one of the biggest selling R&B singers of the 1990s. He is the recipient of seven Grammy Awards.

Usher is presently on a worldwide tour of North America, Europe and Australasia under the name, OMG Tour. In his own words ‘I wanted to make sure that, in comparison to the other shows that are going on around the world, you get the type of experience that leave you saying, OMG.’ The six times Grammy Awards nominated Akon, too, is on OMG Tour with Usher where the dynamic duo would perform together from April – June 2011.
