The Legacy of Tina Turner

An inspirational singer and actress, Tina Tuner paved her own way through the industry, battling abuse, steering through the competition, and smashing all boundaries. Born as Anna Mae Bullock, she was discovered by a talent hunter Ike Turner, whom she later married. Together known as Ike and Tina Turner Revue, the husband-wife duo showcased their incredible chemistry in live performances and released big hits like “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine”, “Proud Mary”, “Nutbush City Limits”, and “River Deep – Mountain High”. Together they sold out venues countrywide and there Las Vegas concerts were attended by icons like Elvis Presley, Elton John, David Bowie, James Brown, and Cher.

In the 70s, Tina Turner transitioned from composing R&B numbers to hardcore rock n roll. It was then that she came out with chartbusters like “Come Together”, “Get Back”, and “Honky Tonk Woman”. It was until the beginning of 80s that Tina finally disclosed her abusive marriage due to Ike’s excessive drug problem. In 1986, she released her autobiography titled “I, Tina: My Life Story” and made many shocking revelations.

There are many achievements attached to her name, but some that standout includes being the first female as well as a person of color to feature on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1967. She went on to dominate the pop culture with her superb fashion sense and music. She made inroads into Hollywood as well with the movie “Tommy”. Even as she has crossed the age of 80, Tina Turner hasn’t lost her relevance and is once again touching hearts, this time with the TINA – The Tina Turner Musical.
