Steve Winwood is a legend, there is no other way to describe him. From the time he first burst onto the music scene decades ago to his current status as one of the most celebrated artists of all time, he has played his part in taking rock n roll beyond its conventional boundaries. To remain at the top of the mountain for as long as he has takes some doing. He is on tour and you can watch him perform live exclusively for you by simply grabbing your Steve Winwood tickets now.

Steve Winwood was born on 12th May, 1948 in England. His father was a part time musician who used to play the clarinet and saxophone. That is what got Winwood hooked to the world of music and he started to play instruments like the piano, guitar and drums at a very young age. By the time he turned eight years old he was playing as a member of the Ron Atkinson band. Winwood then went on to become a member of the R&B music world that was prevalent in Birmingham. During those early days Winwood would provide background support to famous names such as Bo Diddley, Eddie Boyd, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Otis Spann. His biggest inspiration however was none other than the iconic Ray Charles.

To further his music education, Steve Winwood went on to join the Spencer Davis Group when he was only fourteen years old. With him at the vocals, the group had their first table topping hit song “Keep on Running”. That brought Winwood into the limelight and put him on the road to stardom. His talents brought his way an opportunity to work with Eric Clapton and the two of them went on to release three tracks. Success kept on coming with songs like” I’m a Man” and “Gimme Some Lovin.

Winwood bid farewell to the Spencer Davis Group and shortly afterwards met Chris Wood, Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason. The four of them began to record and play together. The chemistry was there for everyone to see and that resulted in the creation of the group “Traffic.” A cottage was bought ear the outskirts of Aston Tirrold and that became their base for recording and composing new works. An arrangement was made within the group where Winwood was handed the responsibilities of writing the music that complimented the lyrics done by Capaldi. Winwood was Traffic’s vocalist as well.

Traffic made their debut with the track “Paper Sun” which turned out to be a success in the United Kingdom. The follow up “Hole in My Shoe” went on to fare even better and became one of the group’s biggest hits of all time. Steve Winwood then teamed up with Ric Grech,  Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton to form the basis of another band “Blind Faith.”  That venture didn’t last too long and Winwood embarked on a solo career. He needed help so he turned to Capaldi and Wood to give him a hand and that led to Traffic making a comeback with the album “John Barleycom Must Die.”

Winwood took a break from Traffic once again and launched his solo career in 1977 with a self-titled album. It took him another three years to release his next album which was titled “Arc of a Diver.” The album was a success and that really brought Winwood under the spotlight as a solo performer. “Back in the High Life” hit the music stores in 1986 and turned out to be an immense hit especially in the U.S. The album sold well over five million copies and won a couple of Grammys for its efforts.

“Refugees of the Heart” and “Roll with It” were another two hits that kept Winwood’s solo career reaching new heights. The latter sold well in excess of three million copies and was certified triple platinum.  His next step was to team up with Capaldi to record and release “Far From Home.”

That was followed by “Junction Seven”, “About Time” and “Nine Lives” in 1997, 2003 and 2008 respectively to solidify Winwood’s status among the greats of the music world. Steve Winwood is an inductee of the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone has put him in the company of 100 greatest singers in history. This two time Grammy winning icon is on tour so don’t miss out on Steve Winwood tickets and watch him live as he turns your evening into one unforgettable occasion.
