The Seattle Sounders FC might be a relatively new soccer team but even in such a short space of time they have made their presence felt. Seattle has always had a very big soccer fanbase. Paul Allen and later Drew Carey also came onboard to lead even more credibility to the bid. All the hard work paid off and the city was awarded a franchise on 13^th November, 2007. The team was officially named Seattle Sounders FC on 7^th April, 2008.
 
The Sounders made their debut in the 2009 season. The excitement in the city had reached levels where all twenty two thousand season tickets were sold without any problems. Their first home game came against the New York Red Bulls on 19^th March, 2009. The Sounders trounced the Bulls 3-0 to kick-off in style. They went on to become the second team in MLS expansion history to win the US Open Cup in its first season by beating D.C. United 2-1. They also managed to clinch a play-off berth at the end of the first season.
 
They started the next season a little slowly but hit form at just the right time to capture another play-off place. They defended their U.S. Open Cup successfully thus becoming the first team in twenty seven years to do so. They once again made the playoff that season. The 2011 season was very successful too as the Sounders once again went all the way to the play-offs. On top of that they also managed to keep hold of the U.S. Open Cup which made them the first team in over four decades to win three straight U.S. Open Cups.
 
Seattle Sounders FC have tasted success domestically but the biggest prize of them all the MLS Cup has still been agonizingly out of reach.
