Scorpions band was the brainchild famous German guitarist Rudolf Schenker, he formed this band in 1965 in the city of Hanover West Germany. Over the years the band underwent a lot of lineup changes and Schenker is the only constant member since debut of the group. Apart from Schenker the updated lineup of Scorpions include singer Klaus Mein who has been with the band since 1970, others are lead guitarist Matthias Jabs, bassist Pawel Maciwoda and drummer James Kottak. On VH1 list of Greatest Artists of Hard Rock Scorpions are ranked at #46. Over the years Scorpions have released nineteen studio and five live albums, they have sold more than 110 million albums across the globe. Scorpions have won a number of popular awards such as World Music Award, Life Time Achievement Award given by Hard Rock Café, Best German Live Band, Echo Award for Best national Group and last but not the least a Rock Legend Award from World Music Award for the band’s contribution to rock music. Scorpions received a Star on the esteemed Hollywood Rock Walk in the year 2010. Over the years Scorpions has been signed with various recording label like BMG, East West Records, EMI Records and Mercury Records.
 
Scorpions debut album was Lonesome Crow that was released in 1972, this was followed by five more studio albums and all of these failed to chart. Initial success came to the group when the released Lovedrive in the year 1979, this was the band’s first album that charted in countries like Germany, Sweden, France, UK and the US, it went gold in Germany, USA and France. The next album Animal Magnetism brought more fame for the group as it went platinum in the US. This was followed by three more very popular platinum albums namely Blackout, Love at First Sting, Savage Amusement and Crazy World. Crazy World was the eleventh album of Scorpions that broke sales records around the world, it raced to #1 on German and Austrian charts, and one single from this album which was a power ballad called “Winds of Change” literally stormed to top position on charts worldwide, this single till date remains the highest grossing hard rock song in Germany and on the Best Selling Singles of all Time list it is placed in the top twenty list with fourteen million albums sold.
 
Scorpions popularity starting to go down owing to the decrease in the popularity of heavy metal music in the mid 90’s and the next two albums barely managed to earn a gold certification. Scorpions rose to fame again after a gap of almost a decade with the release of their eighteenth album namely Sting in the Tail, it charted on almost all popular charts around the world landing at #2 on German Charts, #6 on Austrian, Finish and Swiss charts. The album went platinum in Germany. The latest album of Scorpions till date is Comeblack that was released in November 2011 by Sony Music Records.
