The Santa Barbara Bowl is one of the most unique amphitheatres in the United States. With a capacity of 4,562 seats, it is the largest amphitheatre in Santa Barbara. Since it is carved into the hillside, if offers its guests natural and outdoor ambiance. It was further designed to uplift the spirits of depression-era Americans living in the Santa Barbara area. The original stage was wooden and revolving but now the stage is made up of concrete. The management of the Bowl, while reconstructing the new stage also built new restrooms and dressing room, all under the stage.
Although, a few minutes drive from downtown Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Bowl is a whole different world in itself. It is covered by a wooded canyon, which poses some challenges of its own. While secluded it is still located in an area which is largely residential, so the city’s regulations on noise and timings are equally applicable on the Bowl’s performances. The concerts and other performing arts events are performed under 100dB limit and all events are wrapped up by 10 p.m. The management of the Bowl while offering a unique musical experience to its patrons and guests is also mindful of their safety. So in order to fully enjoy the performance(s), attendees aren’t allowed to bring in bottles from outside, sleeping bags and food baskets are prohibited as well, unless permitted, the audio/video-recording and photography isn’t allowed and needless to say the attendees cannot bring in knives, guns, pepper spray or mace, with them. Smoking is allowed but only in designated areas and alcohol is not sold without proper identification.
