The festival lasted for two days, and it was sold out in advance. The following year the event sold out a week before the event, and it turned out to be the largest jazz music festival ever. With time, Festival’s reputation grew only bigger, and in 1981, Playboy Jazz Festival gathered $40,000 of the South Bay Cancer Foundation and Salvation Army.

In 1985 the festival clinched its third consecutive MAGGIE Award for the category of Editorial Excellence that was awarded by Western Publishing Association. Also in the same year, it also broke the attendance records at the Hollywood Bowl. The year 1988 marked the 10 th anniversary of the festival as well as the 35 th anniversary of Playboy as well. Those musicians included Trombone Shorty, Jake Shimabukuro and Naturally 7. Even this year, the festival would be no less entertaining as it has been always.
