The Showroom at the Orleans Hotel is hosting shows that feature the award winning stand-up comedian, Paula Poundstone. The forthcoming show presents the Huntsville born multi-talented personality, Paula Poundstone. She is a renowned comedian, actress, author, commentator and interviewer. Growing up in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Paula enrolled into the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, but decided to quit shortly afterwards to pursue a professional career in show business. Relocating to Boston, Paula initially struggled, taking up jobs as a bicycle messenger and a waitress. It was in 1979 when Paula started performing standup acts at local pubs and bars across Boston. A year later she toured to perform all across San Francisco. Finally settling in San Francisco, Paula started performing at the Other Café on a regular basis. It was during these open-mic nights that Paula grabbed the attention of Robin Williams, who then approached her to relocate to San Francisco permanently. He offered her to star in Saturday Night Live show.

Paul Poundstone tried her luck in acting and became a part of the 1984 motion picture, “Hyperspace.” After almost a decade of performing, Paula won her very first award, the American Comedy Award in the category of “Best Female Stand-up Comic.” Just after a year, the comedian wrote her very first comedy script titled “Cats, Cops and Stuff” which was aired as an HBO special in the same year. The special show won Paula a CableACE Award in the category of “Best Standup Comedy Special.” With this, Paula Poundstone became the first female to win an ACE Award. Her sophomore HBO special was filmed at the Saunders Hall at Harvard University. Titled “Paula Poundstone goes to Harvard”, the comedic show became the first television special to use the university’s name.

Over the years, Paula Poundstone has appeared and performed in several television shows, some of which include “the Rosie O’Donnell Show”, “the Tonight Show”, “Hollywood Squares”, “To Tell the Truth”, “Cybill”, “Science Court”, “Home Movies” and “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me.” Paula has been granted with several honors and awards over the years. The comedian won her second Cable ACE Award in the category of “Best Program Interviewer” in 1993. Apart from this Paula was added to the list of “100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time” by Comedy Central. She also received induction into the prestigious Comedy Hall of Fame in the year 2010. Paula was also invited to perform an act at a White House correspondent’s dinner in 1992. With this she became the very first female standup comedian to receive this invitation.

Paula’s repertory consists of two comedy CDs namely “I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them in Maine” released in 2009 and her most recent release, “I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them in Boston” that came out in 2013. Apart from working as a columnist for Entertainment Weekly, the Columnist, Glamour and the Los Angeles Times, the comedian has also authored the book, “There is nothing in This Book That I Meant to Say” that was published in 2006.
