The National Finals Rodeo is the leading rodeo championship event in America, which is annually held by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The tournament, normally referred to as the NFR is sponsored by Wrangler Jeans and lasts for ten days during the month of December. PRCA established the event in 1958 to classify the world-champion in each of the 7 rodeo events. The 7 categories include calf roping, bull riding, bareback bronc riding, team roping, steer wrestling and saddle bronc riding. The National Finals Rodeo provides the country’s top 15 money winners to showcase their talent in each category as they contend for the world-title. The 1^st NFR took place in Dallas in the year 1959, where it continued to be held through the year 1961. It was hosted in Los Angeles between 1962 and 1964. Then, when Oklahoma City bid successfully to be the host-city, the State Fair Arena lured over forty-seven thousand fans in 1965. The Finals continued to be held there through the year 1978 and moved to the Myriad Convention Center, where it continued through the year 1984.This earned the merchants in Oklahoma, a total of around eight million dollars annually.
 
Then Las Vegas won the bid for the tournament in 1984 and hence, since the year 1985, National Finals Rodeo has been hosted in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The event is now the venue’s prime client and brings them over 170,000 supporters every year. Also, “Wrangler” became the contest’s sponsor in 2001 and the contract, which is part of the PRCA’s ongoing work to promote professional rodeo, was made by Steven J. Hatchell, Commissioner of PRCA.
 
Oklahoma City has made proposals to return the championship to Oklahoma, but each time it gets outbid by Las Vegas. However, the “DNCFR”, PRCA’s semi-pro Finals are being hosted in Oklahoma City since 2011. Besides, the recent inauguration of the Oklahoma City’s Ford Center, which is much bigger than the venue in Vegas might affect bids in future, since the NFR contract for Las Vegas, terminates in 2014.
 
Moreover, 2011 National Finals Rodeo championship was an exciting event, as Luke Branquinho won his 3^rd world-title and the 1^st one after 2008. The tournament featured a fairly equal number of gold buckle newcomers and expert champions. Branquinho joined the experts’ category by Lindsay Sears, Taos Muncy and Trevor Brazile. Newcomers in the world-champion club consisted of Kaycee Feild, Turtle Powell, Jhett Johnson, Tuf Cooper and Shane Proctor.
