Nashville Symphony tickets present one of the country’s finest orchestra this season. The Nashville Symphony is Tennessee’s premium chamber and classical music ensemble. It is the finest in the larger Nashville area performing over one hundred and forty concerts each year. Currently headed by music director Giancarlo Guerrero the Orchestra brings some of the most astounding concerts every season. The symphony also run the Music Education City, a program designed specially to promote classical/chamber music education.

The orchestra has been active in recording its works since 2000. It has made a total of twenty recording under the shell of the label most of which have earned nominations for the Grammy Awards. The ensemble has performed on the soundtrack of Joan Tower and the album Made in America for which it won thee Grammies (in the categories of Best Orchestral Performance and Best Classical Album). The symphony orchestra was also nominated for another recording effort, the Maurice Ravel's L'Enfant et les sortilèges in 2010. Most recently it bagged the prestigious ASCAP award for Programming of Contemporary Music (2011).

The early beginnings of the Nashville Symphony goes back to 1920; a group of amateur and professional musicians headed by George Pullen Jackson as manager and president started as an orchestra ensemble. It grew rapidly in the next decade but was marred greatly due to the recession blues of the 30’s. Post WWII Walter Sharp returned from home with the aim of creating a brand new symphony. He wanted the ensemble to be from Middle Tennessee. He was supported by a number of orchestra lovers and community heads and the result was the Nashville Symphony. William Strickland, a New York based young conductor came to the Symphony as its first music director/conductor. The War Memorial Auditorium hosted the first ever concert by the orchestra that mesmerized audiences in downtown Nashville. From there onwards, the ensemble took off really well; it was because Strickland tool performance standards to new heights.

The orchestra has been improving and maintain its originality and finesse to date. Music Director Guy Taylor worked with the symphony form 1951–1959, Willis Page’s tenure began in 1959 and ended in 1967 with Thor Johnson coming in. Johnson served the orchestra really well, his eight years period ended in 1975. Michael Charry was the music director for 1976–1982; his tenure was not long yet remarkably important. Apart from introducing works of a number of maestros from all over the world, he took up the responsibility of reviving orchestra in its most original form. In his time the ensemble moved its series of performances from the good old War Memorial to the Jackson Hall at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Charry’s efforts allowed Kenneth Schermerhorn the next music director and principal conductor to lead the symphony into more creative dimensions. Schermerhorn joined in 1983 and became analogous to the Nashville Symphony for the next twenty two years, until his death in 2005.

Schermerhorn’s time was particularly important as the orchestra's profile improved and increased manifold. CD recordings namely Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 (1996), Hanson: Orchestral Works, Vol. 1 (2000), Ives: Symphony No. 2; Robert Browning Overture (2000), Bernstein: West Side Story: The Original Score (2002), Chadwick: Orchestral Works Thalia / Melpomene / Euterpe (2002), Beach: "Gaelic" Symphony; Piano Concerto (2003), Beethoven: Missa Solemnis, Op. 123 (2004), Carter: Symphony No. 1; Piano Concerto (2004) and a complete series of Villa-Lobos: Bachianas Brasileiras (2005) were done during his time. Apart from these television broadcasts, a memorable performance one at the Carnegie Hall and a first time East Coast tour the orchestra’s outside of Nashville.

Leonard Slatkin contracted the Nashville Orchestra for three years after Schermerhorn. In his first year, Slatkin conducted the opening show of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. It featured the world premiere of Triple Concerto (by Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyr and Zakir Hussain) along with a couple of repertoires. Guerrero came to the symphony as its seventh music director for a five years’ contract. Since he started working, he delivered some exceptional live seasons as well as three recordings which include Daugherty: Metropolis Symphony; Deus ex Machina, Ravel: L'Enfant et les sortilèges; Shéhérazade and Riders in the Sky: Lassoed Live at the Schermerhorn. Nashville Symphony tickets are your best chance for a live taste of this wonderful ensemble. Don’t miss out on them.
