Taalib Johnson popularly known as Musiq Soulchild was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1977 and has eight other siblings. He is the oldest of them all. Musiqhad decided at a very early age that he would not complete his education in high school so at the age of 17 he ran away from home. He started showing signs of being a very gifted musician and he established a reputation for himself by beat boxing for different MC's and free styling on the open mic circuit.

The second album was called Juslisen. The album was a huge success and debuted at number one on the Billboard Charts. It was certified platinum later on. After the success of this album, he went on to record his fifth album and released it in December 2008. The album was titled 'Onmyradio' and this album was much different than his previous albums and had a different sound. The single ' Radio' was the lead track and what his fans were used to listening from him. The album had two duets Ifuleave and Sobeautiful. He collaborated with Mary J Blige for the first one. The album also featured collaboration between Musiqand JR Hutson who was trying to get Musiqto record with his for over eight months.
