The Moscow Ballet was formed back in 1993 evolving out of the “Glasnost Festival” that was held throughout North America by Akiva Talmi. This festival initiated in 1988 and presented performances by ballet institutions such as National Ballet of Czehcoslovakia, Bolshoi Ballet and Mariinsky/Kirov Ballet, to name a few. The festival toured from 1988 to 1991 presenting some of the world’s most renowned ballerinas such as Tatiana Chernobrovkina from Stanislavsky Moscow Ballet and Alexei Malykin from Bolshoi Ballet. The arrangements for the performances were handled by Oleg Vinogradov, who also provided directional expertise to the principal artists. Some of the principal artists who were a part of the festival include Vladimir Kim, Margarita Kullik, Stanislav Fetcho, Jana Kurova, Vadim Bondar and Svetlana Smirnova.

The international tours of the “Glasnost Festival” were organized and produced by Akiva Talmi Presents Inc. Performances were held all across Dartmouth, Princeton, Cleveland, Birmingham, North Carolina, Yale, South  Carolina, Alabama and New York. These dominated the venues namely Utica Symphony Hall, University of South Carolina, Warner Bentley Theater, Vanderbilt University, Perdue University, Alabama Beethoven Society, Middlebury College and Shubert Theater.

With the success of these tours, Talmi decided to create the Moscow Ballet in 2003 with the aim of bringing some of the best ballets to audiences across America. Since then the company has been performing a hundred shows on an annual basis. A ballet showcase that has become one of Moscow Ballet’s more popular presentations is the Great Russian Nutcracker. Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the play, the presentation isn’t one to be missed out on. Other ballets in their repertory include Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Glasnost Revived.

The Moscow Ballet’s shows are known to put forth beautifully choreographed routines that are completed with lavish sets, colorful costumes and dramatic sound effects. Each of their performances is known to leave the audiences completely mesmerized and spell bound. These performances present over one hundred and thirty two professional dancers that accompany the ballet organizations on its tours. Each production features over more than two hundred lavish costumes and hand-painted backdrops that present a three dimensional effect.

Apart from organizing regular shows, the Moscow Ballet is also known to hold ballet training classes. The “Dance with Us” program and “New Horizons – A Children’s Program for Life” are known to train students of all ages, holding regular workshops at schools and colleges. The company also holds regular auditions to find room for more talented ballet dancers.

Its founder Talmi is also involved in other projects. He is also the founder of ATP Inc, a company that manages fine arts tours and provides special marketing services for showcases. Some of the national and international tours that he has produced over the years include “The Alexander Godunov Retrospective Ballet Tour” of 1981, “From Bolshoi to Broadway” in 1983, “Silk, Satin and Denim” in 1984, “The Cynthia Gregory Celebration Tour” of 1984, “Russian Ballet Performances” in 1989 and “The Great Russian Nutcracker” that initiated in 1994. These contributions and productions have made Talmi the recipient of the AICF Award, Leonard Bernstein Award, Richard Rogers Award and Metropolitan Opera Guild Award. Respected by ballet lovers and critics alike, Moscow Ballet is one of the most appreciated ballet institutions in North America. Now the Moscow Ballet is ready to perform in Brooks and Naples.
