Kansas was originally formed in Topeka in 1970 by bassist Dave Hope, guitarist Kerry Livgren and drummer Phil Ehart who had played together during high school. Later on, they were joined by violinist Robbie Steinhardt, guitarist Richard Williams and vocalist/keyboardist Steve Walsh. With their relentless touring, the band was able to build a solid fan following for their unique sound of prog rock imbued with the melodious sounds of the violin.
The debut album “Kansas” introduced the fans to the fabulous sound of symphonic arrangements and boogie rock. The band toured more to promote their album; their second album “Song for America” was received positively and the third album “Masque” sold a quarter of a million copies. With their fourth album “Leftoverture” and fifth album “Point of Know Return”, the band became a household name. After all, the albums contained brilliant songs like “Carry On Wayward Son”, “Dust In the Wind” and “Point of Know Return”. The band faced difficulties during the 1980s; however, they came back reformed and released their album “Power” with the hit single “All I wanted”.

In 2009, Kansas released a live CD/DVD/Blu-Ray based upon a concert played by the band in their hometown backed by a symphony orchestra; this released ranked number five on the Billboard charts in just a week of its release.
