Journey is a rock band belonging to San Francisco, California. The band was formed in 1973 by Frumious Bandersnatch and Santana. Since then the group has traveled a long way and gone through a number of phases, with major changes in lineup. The band was originally named Golden Gate Rhythm Section and was formed to serve as the backup band for the Bay Area singers. Journey released their very first self titled album in 1975 after which Tickner left the group. The second album “Look into the Future” was released one year later. Initially, both the albums did not receive good response. Columbia Records suggested the band to change their music style all together. The band transitioned their musical genre to a totally new popular style that resembled that of Foreigner the band. In 1977, the band decided to embark on a tour with Robert Fleischman. Herbie Herbert, the director of Journey hired a new drummer in the band and in 1979, the band released their album “Evolution”. The album included three top hit songs named Don’t Stop Believin’, Who’s Cryin’ Now and Open Arms. Because of their rising fame, the band sold the rights of their music and likeness to be included in two game, Journey Escape for Atari 2600 and Journey an arcade game by Midway. “Frontiers”, the next album by the band was released in 1983 and yet again received critical acclaim, continuing the group’s journey down the success road. The album made it to number 2 at album charts and featured four tracks that made it to Top 40 charts. During this time, the band was known as one of the top touring bands across the globe. Journey went on hiatus after Frontiers as some of the members wanted to pursue solo projects. Between their long hiatus, Columbia Records managed to release three compilations including “Greatest Hits Album” in 1988. Reunion of the band took place in 1995. Before that, Cain, Schon and Perry gave a combined performance of Lights and Faithfully in a tribute concert in 1991. Four years later, the line up that was the creator of Frontiers and Escape reunited to bring to their fans a brand new album by the name “Trial by Fire” in 1996.
