Glen Hansard was born in Ballymun Dublin in Ireland in the year 1970. He dropped out of school in his early teens and went onto pursue a career in music. He is definitely a powerhouse of talent as he has been working not only as a solo singer, musicians and lyricist but also he is played an important role in forming two folk rock bands one is a duo namely The Swell Season in which he performs with famous Czech pianist and vocalist Marketa Irgolova, the other group is The Frames and Hansard is the founding member of this band. Glan has been active in the music world for over two decades now and he formed his first ever band The Frames in the year 1990. This band has played an important ruling in influencing the rocky music scene in Dublin and the current lineup consists of Hansard on guitars and vocals, Graham Hokins on drums, Rob Bochnik on guitars, Joe Doyle on bass and Colm Mac Con on keyboards.the group is signed ANTI Records and has released ten studio albums albums out of which Breadcrumb Trail, Set List, Burn The Maps landed at #1 on Irish Charts whereas the ninth studio album named The Cost was at #2. Glen Hansard is primarily popular as a singer and guitar player but he can also fluently play the mandolin. He has been associated with recording labels like Island Records, Plateau Records and Overcoat Recordings.
 
Glen Hansard has got a long list of EP and single to his name, he has recorded three EPs namely Turn on Your Record Player (1992), Rent Day Blues (1999) and The Roads Outgrown (2003). His singles include hits like “Picture of Love”, “Angel at My Table”, “Come on Up to the House”, “Lay Me Down”, “Fake”, “Finally”, “Sideways Down”, “Happy”, “Falling Slowly No More I Love Yous” and more recently in 2012 “Take the Heartland”. He formed The Swell Season with Irgolova in the year 2005 and together the duo went on to record and release three studio albums, the first one was a self-titled album that came out in 2006, it was followed by Once in 2007 and Strict Joy in the year 2009. After releasing these albums the band has not been performing as a duo and The Swell Season has went into a temporary hiatus since 2011. “Falling Slowly” is one single of The Swell Season that helped to garner immense fame for the duo, this was included in the soundtrack of the movie Once in which lead roles were played by Hansard and Irgolova, the song won a Grammy Award for Best Original song and was also nominated in the category for Best Song Written For Motion Picture. Hansard has also appeared and acted in a few other films and their names are The Commitments, Austin city Limits, Ballymun Lullaby (documentary) and Play.
