Canadian stand-up comedian Gerry Dee is perhaps best recognized as the contestant who came third on the reality talent show Last Comic Standing in its fifth season. Prior to that he hosted his own comedy special produced for The Comedy Network of Canada, and had appeared on another show on the same channeled called The Nubian Disciples. He has also played the role of Donny in the small hit film Trailer Park Boys: The Movie.
 
Dee gained fame by performing at the world renowned Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival of Montreal, where his segment titled Just For Laughs was later aired. The artist has also made appearances in TV commercials alongside performing at several comedy clubs such as Yuk Yuks and at Montreal’s famous comedy festival Just For Laughs. Before venturing into comedy, Gerry Dee was a teacher at the De LA Salle College in Canada, where he taught physical education, and coached the hockey team for ten years.  He began performing in differ parts of Toronto, landing small roles such as that in Trailer Park Boys. Soon enough he was a national comedy star who had surprised his audience with his comedy tour titled Life After Teaching. In 2012, Gerry Dee’s sitcom titled Mr. D was premiered on CBC Television. After completing a successful first season, the show is now being renewed for its second one. The series centers on the misadventures of an odd schoolteacher known to everyone as Gerry Duncan, and commonly called Mr. D, played by Dee himself. The character mainly teaches social studies to high school students even though he is under-qualified for the job, which results in moment of outright hilarity every time Mr. D enters class. Dee’s production includes well-known actors such as Mark Forward, Wes Williams, Mark Little, Darrin Rose, Naomi Snieckus, Bette MacDonald, Booth Savage, Lauren Hammersley and Jonathan Torrens. Dee is the writer, executive producer and the creator of the sitcom, where his character is actually based on himself and his ten-year experience as a high-school teacher, just prior to the start of his comedy career in 2003. The series received significant popularity, beginning with over a million viewers for its very first episode, and is currently the largest midseason debut on CBC.
