After being given the status of a Double A affiliate in 1999, the team was first taken up by Anaheim Angels . In 2001, their association changed from Anaheim Angels to Detroit Tigers .

It is because of their great performance that Erie Seawolves, initially an A Level affiliate of Pittsburgh Pirates from 1995 till 1998 were soon given the status of Double A affiliate of Anaheim Angels . Some of the titles that this team has won so far include Division titles for the years 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2007.
