Before climbing the stair to stardom, a few of Ellen’s early work experiences include: clerk in a law firm; sales girl at Merry-Go-Round chain store; waitress at two restaurants; a house painter; a bartender and a hostess. Influenced by Woody Allen and Steve Martin, Ellen’s next step taken was to perform at small clubs and coffeehouses as a stand-up comedienne, and soon she became Clyde’s Comedy Club’s compere in New Orleans. Touring on a national scale in the 1980s, Ellen DeGeneres had been named as the Showtime’s Funniest Person in America in 1982. Her early screen work, both on television as well as in films, started in the late 1980s, which started with her appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, continued to Open House, and then finally moved to the world of movies, such as the Coneheads film.
