Brand New was founded in the year 2000 in the city of Levittown in Long Island New York. It was primarily the brainchild of three musician friends namely Garrett Tierney (back vocals/bassist), Brian Lane (drums) and Jesse Lacey (lead singer/guitarist), these three had played together in a hardcore band called The Rookie Lot. These three were later joined by lead guitar player Vincent Accardi and Derrick Sherman on keyboards. The band initially got noticed by performing at various underground shows and with bands like Glassjaw and Midtown. Brand New was signed by Triple Crown Records only after a couple of shows. The band describes its music as a blend of emo, indie-pop and alternative rock. Brand New cites famous artists and bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, Foo Fighters, The Cars, The Beach Boys, Morrissey, Radiohead and Sunny Day Real Estate as their major influences.
Brand New has released four studio albums and two EP’s. Their first album was released in 2001, it was called Your Favorite Weapon . The album was not a huge success as it sold over 50,000 copies and failed to chart but the band was noticed in the music industry. Second album Deja Entendu was released in 2003 to a good response. This album was the first one for the group to chart at #63 on US Billboard and #105 on UK Charts. It sold over 500,000 copies earning a Gold certification. Deja Entendu to-date is Brand New’s only album that went Gold. The success of this album led the band to appear for the first time on TV on The Jimmy Kimmel Show . Brand New toured with bands like Blink-182, Good Charlotte and New Found Glory. The group also had the chance to be the headlining band at The Bamboozle festival accompanied by groups like Fall Out Boy, Flogging Molly, The Bouncing Souls, Alkaline Trio and My Chemical Romance.
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me was the band’s third studio album and the first one to be released under the label of Interscope Records in 2006. The album improved the previous Billboard position of the band by landing at #31, it went to #77 on UK Charts and #8 on US Top Rock Albums. One single “Jesus” from this album was a great success and charted at #30 on US Alternative songs. Brand New performed a live version of this song on Late Night with Conan O’Brien . The band has also performed on the very popular Late Show with David Letterman . Owing to the success of the album Brand New went on a tour of New Zealand and Australia. The last album released till date by the group is Daisy in 2009. This became the first album of Brand New to chart in Australia and Canada at #40 and #17 respectively. Daisy landed at #6 on US Billboard and this is the highest charting position by the band.
