Big Gigantic is an electronic jam band founded by Colorado based producer and saxophonist Dominic Lalli, alongside drummer Jeremy Salken. Created in 2008, the band has already made its mark in the electronic music genre with high tempo tunes such as The Uprising, Rise and Shine, Nocturnal, The Heavyweight Champion, Hopscotch, Beginning of the End, It’s Goin Down, Fantastic, All Nighter, Stronger and Eyes Closed. The group has established its own distinct sound by incorporating strong jazz melodies with some high energy dance beats, which together create a traditional and contemporary feel. Their bass is often described as ‘thunderous’ which mixed with frenetic melodies have won a big following. The twosome has been noted to have quickly stepped into the world of dance, hip-hop and electronic with their album Nocturnal, making Big Gigantic a key figure in such music. Their sound is said to assimilate qualities from several different musical genres including rock and instrumentals, which has made Big Gigantic tickets popular among the younger crowds.

Both the members of Big Gigantic have been involved in music since young age. Dominic Lalli started studying music since middle school, receiving much support form his family in pursuing his talents. After attending high school Lalli decided to further his music education at the University of Northern Arizona, where he began playing weekly gigs alongside world famous bassist Joel Dibartolo, who is seen in the Tonight Show Band. Lalli also performed with Frank Rosaly of Chicago. By 2001, Lalli garnered a music scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with musicians like Dave Leibman, Dick Oatts, Bob Mintzer, Garry Dial and Kenny Barron. It was there that Lalli developed his own sound and music methodology, while he also took the opportunity to perform with high-end artists such as Christian McBride, Mark Whitfield, Umphreys Mcgee, Railroad Earth, Michael Franti and Spearhead,  Stefon Harris, Jeff Tain Watts, Dick Oats, Bob Mintzer and Kenny Barron. Lalli graduated with a jazz master’s degree and moved to Boulder where he began playing with Jeremy Salken, while trying out the idea of incorporating live instruments with traditional DJ-oriented music.

Jeremy Salken has been on the drums since he was only four. He has performed shows with The Everyone Orchestra, Mike Gordon, Kyle Hollingsworth, Michael Travis, Jason Hann, Michael Kang, Panjea, The Motet, Hot Buttered and Melvin Seals. Together in Big Gigantic, the two artists created much hype beginning in 2008, with their nation-wide one-offs and local shows before the release of their debut album titled Fire It Up, which came out in 2009. Following the release of their first album, the two went on their first US tour. The group has drawn influence from other electronic dance bands such as Pretty Lights, Herbie Hancock and some other jazz artists. The two artists can take a three minute song like Wide Awake or High Life, and stretch it into one of those six to ten minutes jam tunes.

Big Gigantic has already been acknowledged as a hit on the festival radars, when their live shows are known to demonstrate their improvisational skills and the strong creative bond between Lalli and Salken. The two simultaneously alternate between keys, laptops and sax, while they play on that futuristic front which keeps the audience tuned with surprising new sounds. Their back-to-back performances feature different types of songs including old, new and unreleased, while also playing unusual remixes such as Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa, I need a Dollar by Aloe Blacc, and Notorious Thugs by Notorious B.I.G.

Between the releases of the band’s debut album and their EP titled Wide Awake, Big Gigantic has been noted to have had over seventy thousand downloads. Their much awaited second album called A Place behind the Moon, which was released on 1320 Records in 2010, the duo has established itself among one of the most significant upcoming electronic bands in the United States. Get hold of those Big Gigantic tickets and freshen yourself up with the refreshing new sound of the Boulder-duo.
