The musical that became a Broadway sensation despite being overlooked at the Tony Awards, Finding Neverland, has been showing to sellout audiences since its preview at Broadway’s Lunt Fontanne Theater in March 2015. Road to Broadway

Two adaptations of the musical were staged in 2011, before it was picked by famous executive producer Harvey Weinstein, who brought in Diane Paulus as the show’s director. James Graham was selected to work on the book while Gary Marlow was trusted with the score. A revised version of the musical was staged to tremendous appreciation at the American Repertory Theater (ART) in Boston. It then moved to Broadway’s Lunt Fontanne Theater in March 2015. Based on a famous story

Finding Neverland is based on the Academy award-winning film of the same name. It follows the story of playwright J.M. Barrie. Barrie’s only hope to save his struggling career is a hit story. Luckily, he finds the inspiration he was after when he meets a beautiful widow, Sylvia and her four young sons; Jack, Peter, Michael and George.

As Barrie observes the boy’s hilarious escapades, he forms a deep connection with them and conjures up the magical land of Neverland to help them deal with loss, grief and growing up. In this process of imagination and storytelling, a new land, characters and a mesmerizing tale is born. It’s a risky gamble, but Barrie soon discovers along the way that when you believe, you can fly.

A talented creative team and cast

The show is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus. Other notable members of the creative team include Ivor Novello winner Gary Barlow and Grammy winner Eliot Kennedy, both of whom are credited with the music and lyrics. The story is based on a new book by celebrated playwright James Graham. The creative team also features Emmy winner Mia Michaels as choreographer.

Matthew Morrison, best-known for his role in Glee, stars as Barrie, alongside Laura Michelle Kelly from Mary Poppins, who stars as Sylvia. Matthew Morrison received the 2015 Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Actor in a Musical” for his outstanding portrayal.

Receiving astounding reviews

Finding Neverland features breathtaking music, lyrics and acting that can leave audiences astounded. Critics have also been full of praise for the new musical and it has received some very encouraging reviews in leading publications including The New York Times and Variety. The Huffington Post has called it “Beautiful,” “wondrous” and “pure bliss.” Variety has praised Diane Paulus’ “imaginative flair” in staging the play and Matthew Morrison’s realistic acting.
