A touring music and extreme sports festival known as Warped Tour is held in various types of venues (generally parking lots or fields upon which the stages and other structures are erected). The festival is often referred to as the Vans Warped Tour as the skateboarding shoe manufacturer Vans has sponsored the tour among others every year since 1995. Over 100 bands per show are featured in the Warped Tour in the recent years. The bands play for up to 30 minutes on approximately 10 different stages. However, the biggest bands generally play on the two "Main" stages.

With several bands playing at once, the timing of performance of the bands is from 11:00am to 9:00 p.m. in a typical day. The individual band times and stages where each band play is marked on a large board usually placed in the middle of the venue. In order to prevent music from one stage disrupting other active stages, the full area is set up in an organized way. One band is also allowed to play ten extra minutes at each show only by fan vote."BBQ Band," prepares food for the bands and crew for the barbecue which is held most evenings in exchange for the privilege of playing on the tour every year. Similarly, one band, DORK (now named Animo) has been allowed to play on the tour in exchange for work on the setup crew for the past four years. At its beginning, the Warped Tour was as a skate punk, and third wave skate tour, but in recent years mostly post-hardcore, pop punk, and metal core acts are featured in the tour.
