In 2007, four talented musicians met each other at the Leads University and having same musical interests, ended up forming an indie rock band. Known as the Alt J, the band is ranked among some of the top ensembles of the music industry. Their songs are known for incredible lyrics and composition. A critic from Drowned in Sound stated that: “Whatever Alt-J were aiming for with their debut album, they have managed to prove their value as talented musicians, literary enthusiasts and imagery aficionados.” Jen Long, music critique from BBC Music was of the view that the album had effectively produced compositions that could be fit under guitar music umbrella. According to him the quartet was able to come up with a repertoire of beautifully composed pop tracks.

It takes musicians years to earn a solid spot in the music industry but the gifted quartet Alt J managed to do that with their very first album. The record was certified Gold in Australia and UK and also won a British Mercury Prize. The BBC Radio 6 Music officially announced An Awesome Wave as the ‘Album of the Year 2012’. The album also made it to the music charts in Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, France, and Scotland. 
 
Some of the popular songs by Alt J are “Something Good,” “Tessellate,” “Matilda” and the gold certified number “Breezeblocks.” One of their songs titled “Buffalo” featuring Mountain Man has also been used in the Oscar winning film, Silver Linings Playbook.  Recently, three of their tracks were included in the list of Australian Triple J Hottest 100. Besides that, Alt J also received three Brit Awards nominations for “British Album of the Year,” “British Breakthrough Act” and “British Group of the Year.”

Since 2007, these gifted musicians have been making some major tours around the world. The band is also known for being a part of some of the biggest music festivals such as Bestival, End of the Road, Latitude, Reading and Leeds as well as Pukkelpop. Alt J is also booked to perform live at 2013 Bonnaroo, Optimus Alive and Laneway Festival. Alt J is scheduled to perform live in Australia, France, UK, Canada, Singapore, and New Zealand, besides the US.
