Staind are 1995 post-grunge rock group from Springfield, Massachusetts. For the seventeen years that they have been a band, their lineup has consisted of Aaron Lewis as the lead singer and the rhythm guitarist, Johnny April as the bass player, Mike Mushok as the lead guitarist, and Jon Wysocki as the drummer. Wysocki finally decided to part ways with the band in 2011. Still, the band has achieved quite a lot, having recorded 7 albums; produced five hit singles, and sold more than 15 million albums all over the world. The recent setback has not stopped them—they will continue to play shows and tour all over the world. They have named their concert series “MASSCHAOS Tour”. Their first ever studio album was titled “Tormented”. This they put out in 1996 to mild reception. Their sophomore album was “Dysfunction” which they released in 1999. Two years later, they followed up this record with “Break the Cycle”, and two years after that, they put out “14 Shades of Grey”. After two more albums, “Chapter V” and “The Illusions of Progress”, with the same amount of time gap, they released their latest work, a long overdue self-titled album in 2011. This is the album they will be promoting in their latest shows. As Staind tickets begin to sell, the band is hoping to put on a show with the same level of quality with their new drummer, Sal Giancarelli as they did with Wysocki.
 
Staind got together as a band in 1995 when they met through some mutual friends. They began jamming together and would play songs by other famous rock bands such as KoRn, Tool, Alice in Chains and Rage Against the Machine. They took their jam sessions to local bars and clubs for a couple more years. The place where they played the most shows was the “Club Infinity”. Eventually, they decided to take their ventures a step further and went on to compile a complete album. They did not anticipate the reception their music would ensue—they put out a meager four thousand pieces. After their eventual long lived success, they only recently decided to re-release the album for the fans that missed out on their early work.
 
The initial Staind tickets were sold when the band embarked on their first concert series as the support band for “Limp Bizkit”. The met the band through another friend, Justin Canton, who helped them secure a spot on their upcoming tour. “Limp Bizkit’s” lead singer, Fred Durst was not very keen on the band at first. He found their album cover to be grotesque and was not very impressed with their disposition. He even tried to remove them from their tour. However, when he saw them perform live for the first time, his perception about them took a complete 180 turn.
 
Staind got a chance to release a record through a major label in 1999. The album was called “Dysfunction” and it was produced by Terry Date and Fred Durst. On its release the sound and theme of the album was compared to the works of other rock bands such as KoRn and Tool. On the whole, however, lead singer Lewis was noted for his vocal performance which was likened to that of Eddie Vedder from “Pearl Jam”.
 
Once they established themselves, they continued to impress with their energetic performances and their creative new albums. They are now a respected name in the grunge genre. They are popular enough that they can indulge into some charity work along with their music. When they announced their new album in 2010, front man Lewis also announced the start of his charity “Aaron Lewis and Friends” to benefit his daughter’s school which had closed down due to lack of funds.
 
For their future endeavors, Staind has stated that they will stay true to their original sound and preserve the style they kept in their old records. But they have also mentioned how they are going to let their creativity take them to new places so that they can provide something fresh and different for their core fans as well. What they do wish to produce is a heavier sound, which has more grunge element and a fuller sound than was available in their old tracks. Their single, “Note Again” perfectly exemplifies the direction they want to their music towards in the future. Fans can be rest assured that their favorite band is going to keep on getting bigger and better.
