IL Divo was founded in the year 2004 and it was a brainchild of famous music personality, producer and X-Factor judge Simon Cowell.. The quartet is rightfully an international group in true sense as it consists of Urs Buhler from Switzerland, David Miller from the US, Carlos Marin is Spanish and Sebastien Izambard is French. The idea of forming a quartet came to Simon Cowell after hearing the legendary classical opera singer Andrea Bocelli. The main aim behind this effort of Cowell was to form a group similar to The Three Tenors.

For this purpose Simon embarked on a search for willing singers and it took him two years to finally find the right singers for his quartet.
