J. Ronald Terwilliger-owned-Atlanta Dream is a Women’s National Basketball Association, abbreviated as WNBA. The team is based in the city of Atlanta and plays its home games at the Philips Arena. The Arena is also home to the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and Atlanta Thrashers (NHL)
On November 27, 2007, Marynell Meadors was named the first head coach/general manager of Atlanta Dream. In 2007, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced a voting contest for people to choose the name and colors for the new team.

An online contest was carried out to decide the name and the colors of the team with the final choice resting with the owner of that time, Ron Terwilliger. On January 23, 2008 the name Dream was decided for the Atlanta team. Marynell Meadors name comes in the franchise history as the first head coach for the team. She was chosen for her experience and also for the fact that a woman coach was required for a women’s team. She was replaced by Fred Williams who assumed the responsibilities of a head coach and general manager for Atlanta Dreams in 2012.
 
Taking into account the short span of time since the team came together the achievements by Dream team are quite impressive. Atlanta Dream has managed to be in the WNBA Finals two times.  It made it to the WNBA Playoffs three times. The team got their first win in 2008 against Chicago Sky and has a remarkable record for home games.
 
Atlanta Dream has produced some of the finest players that include names like Angel McCoughtry, Izi Castro Marques  and Betty Lennox . Angel McCoughtry was the team’s second leading scorer in 2012 London Olympics and helped USA get the gold medal. In 2009, Meadors won Coach of the Year Award for her contributions when Atlanta Dream managed to be in the Playoffs but could not secure a win. Season 2010 did not prove to be a bad year also for Atlanta Dream as they secured their way to WNBA Finals by defeating New York Liberty in two games. Although the team lost to Seattle but they gave a tough competition.
