Playing in the Pacific Coast League, Round Rock Express is based in Round Rock, Texas and was formed in 1979. Playing their home games at the Dell Diamond Ballpark, Round Rock Express holds a Triple-A affiliation with the Major Baseball League’s Texas Rangers. Prior to their affiliation with the Texas Rangers, the team had an affiliation with Astros, back when they were a Double A Team and played in Texas League from 2000 to 2004. While on the other hand, Round Rock Express had their affiliation with Astros at that time. And since both the teams wanted to keep their affiliations, the Trappers/Express franchise changed their affiliations with New Orleans Zephyrs. Few weeks after the exchange took place, Expos became Washington Nationals as they moved to Washington D.C. Due to this, the roster of the Round Rock Express featured players from both Round Rock Express (former Double-A team) and New Orleans Zephyrs. Meanwhile, the original Round Rock Express franchise which came under the ownership of Ryan Group, remained a Double-A Franchise and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where they play in affiliation with the Astros. After the relocation, the name of the team was then changed to Corpus Christi Hooks.

Almost after two seasons, since the team moved to Round Rock, they started showing great improvement in their play. In 2006, the team managed to get a hold of their first Southern Division title after the move. Playing in PCL’s American Conference, the team was able to finish their season with the finishing record of 85-59. Even after winning the division title, there was no stopping them down as they went on to sweep Nashville Sounds in the conference championship, to clinch their first conference championship as well. After making their first appearance in the league championship, after the move, they fell to Tucson Sidewinders in the championship series. In 2010, Round Rock Express really stirred up local media when they announced that they have signed Billy Ray ‘Rojo’ Johnson. However the whole thing was merely a publicity stunt for a Charity Golf Tournament; and Johnson was in fact the actor Will Ferrell who was promoting the event.

Round Rock Express is also known for setting the all time Double-A Attendance record at the Dell Diamond. The team played its five seasons, from 2000 to 2004, as a member of Texas League and during those seasons they brought the grand total of the attendance to 3,374,337. After Express accomplished this, it marked the best attendance record in the history of Double-A baseball.
