Great White is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles. Known for their unique blend of blues rock, combines with styles from heavy metal and glam metal, they are famous all over the world for music that has enchanted many a rock and metal fan, over the decades. This band was founded in 1977 and has been active since then, releasing music by way of labels such as Frontiers and Capitol Records. Its members today are lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Kendall, drummer and percussionist Audie Desbrow, guitarist and keyboardist Michael Lardie, bassist Scott Snyder and lead vocalist Terry Ilous. Great White gained fame during the eighties and nineties, particularly after music videos of its hit songs were played on MTV. Songs for which this band is best known for are Once Bitten, Twice Shy. It all began during 1977 when Mark Kendall met Jack Russell, the latter asking the former to join his band. A year later, the duo formed a band, invited bassist Don Costa of Ozzy Osbourne fame and founded Dante Fox. With drummer Tony Richards on board, they performed their first live concert at Hollywood’s Troubadour and began recording a number of demos.
 
At the urging of manager Alan Niven, who had also managed Motley Crue, the band’s name was changed to Great White. In 1982, their first EP, Out of the Night, was released via an indie label and some of the songs were played on radio stations such as KMET and KLOS-FM in Los Angeles. This soon attracted thousands to their concerts, performing at large venues such as Pasadena’s Perkins Palace, Hollywood’s The Palace and Reseda’s The Country Club. Despite being unsigned at the time, they continued attracting bigger and bigger crowds, selling more cheap Great White tickets. A concert in Valencia at the Six Flags Magic Mountain attracted over six thousand people, a first for a new and unsigned band.
 
In 1983, Great White was signed onto EMI America and began work on their first album, a self-titled record released in 1984. Following this, they went on a UK tour, performing with Whitesnake in the latter’s Slide It In tour. They then toured with Judas Priest, performing in the Defenders of the Faith tour. A second album was released, followed by being signed onto Capitol Records. After this, they went on another tour with band Dokken. By this time, they had become a highly successful band, going mainstream after the release of their 1987 album, which was certified platinum in less than a year.
 
In 1989, Great White released the album Twice Shy, an album certified platinum in a few months and double platinum near the end of the same year. This album also led to a Grammy Award nomination for the Best Hard Rock Performance. Fast forward to the new millennium and this is a band that still maintains a large fan following and a steady stream of albums, the latest in 2009.
