Terry Clark was born in 1968 in Montreal, Canada. Her family settled in Medicine Hat, Alberta and that is where she grew up as a child. Her grandparents, Ray and Betty Gauthier were both well known country musicians. Throughout high school, Clarklistened to Country and folk music. Terry Clark’s first single ‘Better Things to Do’ came out in 1995. The song reached number five in both United States and Canada. Her debut album was self titled and she co-wrote about eleven of the twelve songs on the album. The singles ‘ Suddenly Single’, ‘If I Were You’, ‘When Boy Meets Girl’ gained a lot of popularity. The album was certified Platinum in 1997. The song If I Were You rose to number one in Canada in 1996.

The second studio album Just the Same was released in 1996 and was followed by the release of the single ‘Poor poor pitiful me’, a cover song. ‘ Emotional Girl’, another single of this album reached number one in Canada. Both these songs were in the top ten in the United States. In 1996, Terri Clark earned Album of the Year title for her first album, ‘Terri Clark’. She also won the Fans’ Choice Award in 1997. She won this award six more times till 2007. She also won the Female Artist of the Year award in 2004 and 2005.

Her third album, How I Feel, was released in 1998 and ‘Now that I Found You’, a single from the album, reached top five in Canada and America both. ‘ You’re easy on the Eyes’ reached number one in America and it was her first number one release in America. She opened for Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn in order to promote her album in 1998.

In 2000, she released her fourth album Fearless and the lyrics of the songs were closer to Clarkand were more personal. She got a new producer to record this album so it had a different sound to it. It had a more acoustic sound to it. ‘ A Little Gasoline’ was a popular single of this album, which was added later on. It reached top ten in Canada and made it to number thirteen in the US.

In 2003, she released ‘Pain to Kill’. She followed the same pattern as before. The album was preceded by the release of a single, this time, ‘ I Wanna Be Mad’. The song was to be recorded by country singer Sara Evans but as she passed on, Terri Clark got a chance to sing it. The song gained tremendous success on the charts, peaking at number twenty seven on the Billboard Hot 100.

Terri Clark was rated second behind Shania Twain in a magazine poll. She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2004. She is the only female member as yet. Her greatest hits album came out soon afterwards. The song ‘ Girls Lie Too’ rose to number one in the United States. She recorded her sixth album in 2005 and titled it Life Goes On. The first single ‘She Didn’t Have Time’ didn’t do as well as her previous first singles. She parted ways with Mercury Records after the release of this album. She signed with Sony Music Entertainment in June 2006.
She parted ways with Sony Music Entertainment in 1998. She then worked to release her album through her own label. She released a live album and her seventh album The Long Way Home was released in 2009.

Clark is currently working on her eighth studio album and the release of this album is said to be on the 26 th of July. The album is titled Roots and Wings . This album will also contain the song ‘Smile’, which she wrote for her mother who died after a long fight with cancer.
