Founded in 1910, Saskatchewan Roughriders represent Regina, Saskatchewan in the Canadian Football League. The team was initially founded by the name of Regina Rugby Club and later the name was changed to Regina Roughriders until finally settling for Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1948. Since its formation, the franchise has been playing their home games at the 2949-10th Avenue. Over their years of play, the team has managed to grow their fan base with each season that they play. The franchise’s fan base stretches all across Canada and is officially known as the Rider Nation. In their lustrous century-long history, the team has seen many up-moments. And among them are their eighteen championship game appearances. Out of these eighteen appearances, Roughriders have been able to take home three Grey Cups.

Rider Nation is specially known for its loyalty towards the team. And this is the reason why, whenever the team sets out for a road game, their fans follow them behind to the venue all across the nation. Playing as the members of West Division of Canadian Football League, Roughriders have bitter rivalry with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The game between the two is usually highly anticipated, and whenever these two teams go head to head with each, they usually tend to sell out the venue.

The team came into existence on September 13, 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club and played their first game against Moose Jaw Tigers. Roughriders first game was an away game, and they faced Jaw Tigers on Moose Jaw Baseball Grounds where they had an unfortunate defeated by the Moose Jaw Tigers. Originally Gold and Purple were the team’s colors but later in the following season, the team’s colors were changed to blue and white. And in 1912, Red and Black were chosen as the team’s colors.

In 1924, the team underwent its first of three name changes, and so the team was renamed to Regina Roughriders before finally being named the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 1948, the team’s official colors were also changed from Black and Red to White and Green.

Since their formation, the team has won a total of Three Grey Championship Cup. The first of their wins came in 1966, when Roughriders defeated Ottawa Rough Riders with the finishing record of 29-14. In all of their 18 Grey Cup appearances, Roughriders faced Ottawa Rough Riders on Four Occasions until the Ottawa Rough Riders folded in 1996. Roughriders second championship win came when they pulled up a victory against Hamilton Tiger Cats in 1989. Their most recent and most heated championship victory came to them when they defeated their arch rivals, Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup Finals in 2007.

In their 2007 season, Roughriders had the best season start since 1976, and soon they managed to get a 7-2 start in the season. In their season, Roughriders initially met Blue Bombers in the annual Labour Day Classic in which they claimed an amazing last minute win over the Blue Bombers. Also in their 2007 season, Roughriders played their first home playoff game at the Mosaic Stadium. This was their first home playoff game since 1988. Roughriders faced Calgary Stampeders in that match up and pulled up a victory with 26-24 finishing record, marking their first home playoff victory in years.

In the 95th Grey Cup finals, the Roughriders went toe to toe with their traditional rivals, Winnipeg Blue Bombers on November 25, 2007. Their matchup marked the first time that both the teams went head to head with each other in a Grey Cup championship game. With three interceptions to his name in that game, James Johnson became the first one to do so in a Grey Cup game. He was later named the MVP of the matchup. Andy Fantuz gave the game winning touchdown, and led the Roughriders to the 23-19 win over Blue Bombers.
