The tournament in the year 2005 was won by American golfer Phil Mickelson and the venue was Baltusrol Gold Club in Springfield, New Jersey. The 2006 and 2007 championships were consecutively won by world famous acclaimed golfer Tiger Woods and the venues for the event were Medinah Country Club Illinois and Southern Hills Country in Tulsa Oklahoma respectively. In 2008 and 2009, the championship was won by foreign players namely Padraig Harrington and Yang Yong-eun, this time the tournament was held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan and Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. As of yet, three players have scored the highest number of title wins in this tournament and they are Walter Hagen (five times), Jack Nicklaus (five times) and last but not the least Tiger Woods (four times). American golfers lead the table with the highest number of tournaments wins, in total US golfers have won 76 events followed by Australia with 4 and then 2 wins each by Zimbabwe, Fiji, South Africa and England.
