In 1955, the Terps remained amongst the few collegiate programs in North America to field competitive teams consistently. It finished the season ranking in sixth place in the ACC. In 1957, the team again enjoyed a breakout season, being ranked in fourth place.

Throughout the Maryland Terrapins’ men’s basketball tenure it has enjoyed immense success. The team has claimed 13 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen titles, 5 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight wins, 6 Conference regular season championships and 2 NCAA Tournament Final Four titles. It has made 24 NCAA tournament appearances. Supporting the colors red, black, gold and white, the Maryland Terrapins are known to practice hard at their home arena, the Comcast Center. Owned by the Maryland Stadium Authority, the $125 million venue has been presenting top-notch sports events since 2002. With a capacity to accommodate 17,950 attendees, the Comcast Center caters to wrestling and men’s and women’s basketball programs from the University of Maryland. Notable games that took place at the facility include the 2002 debut men’s Terrapins game against the Gators from the University of Florida, the 2003 game against the Dukes that ended with a victorious score for the Terrapins i.e. 87-72, the 2005 NCAA women’s basketball tournament and the most recent 2013 game held against the Dukes, in which the Terrapins again scored a win.
