The Northside Coliseum hosted the first indoor rodeo event as “strictly a contest”; events include ladies’ bucking bronco, junior steer riding, men’s steer riding and bucking bronco.
After almost fifty decades, special entertainment at the rodeo included an unusual riding team of Zippy riding a Scottish Sheepdog. The animals were owned and trained by Tom Lucia of Weatherford. Finally in 1987 the Stock Show adopted Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show as official name and a year later Will Rogers Equestrian Center opened. In 1996 the Stock Show celebrated its Centennial Anniversary. Charlie & Kit Moncrief Building was opened which included the 1,100 seat W.R. Watt Arena. The bronze statue John Justin and “Baby Blue” was also erected this year and the Stock Show had a record paid Rodeo attendance of 152,989.
Stock Show now has an expanded schedule of 23 days that features its new Ranching Heritage Weekend. A record 951,000 visitors attend the show. Records were established with over 24,000 head of livestock entered and 14 livestock sales that generated $4,322,675.

The show is also famous for staging the indoor cowboy riding contest for the first time, when it was held as a part of the show for the first time in 1917. 1946 marked the golden or 50 th anniversary of the show and in that year the show was moved to Will Rogers Memorial Complex. The show completed a century as a well celebrated stock and rodeo show in 1996 when it celebrated its 100 th anniversary. Show’s 100 years of history advocated its excellence and growing popularity amongst the people. That year Fort Worth Stock and Rodeo show accomplished the feat of attracting 152,989 paid visitors to show, setting a record for itself. Also in 1996, the show was moved to Charlie & Kit Moncrief Building.
