Added to its own state, visitors from Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey know this venue as Delaware’s Broadway Experience. Its main highlights are a six show Broadway Series and a Children’s Series that is seen by over forty thousand children every year. Built as one of the largest theatres of its time, it blended lodging, world famous dining and theatre in an experience that was unique and is still now. At the start of its career, it played host to appearances by Mae West, Ethel Barrymore, Orson Wells, Lillian Gish, George M. Cohan, Helen Hayes, John Barrymore, Fred & Adele Astaire and the Shuberts. It was host to Hey Diddle Diddle’s world premiere starring Lucille Ball in the thirties and it was one of the rare theatres of its time that never converted into a movie house, an affliction that caught up with many of the greatest theatres of its time.

Onwards to the fifties and the sixties, DuPont Theatre’s prestige increased and famous stars of the age such as Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau, Henry Fonda, Victor Borge, George C. Scott, Rosalind Russell, Robert Redford, Patty Duke and Bette Davis performed breathtaking routines on its stage. Productions such as Anything Goes and Captain Brassbound’s Conversion were the norm then. Fast forward to the eighties and the Children’s Series was introduced and played host to thousands of children who were awed by their first look at theatre. Today, this is a theatre that is host to the new generation of Broadway stars including Renee Taylor, Stephanies Powers and Morgan Fairchild. Productions of Les Miserables, Anything Goes and Life is a Cabaret take place here which are watched by many through DuPont Theatre tickets.
