Broadway by the Year, hosted by New York’s The Town Hall, is a series celebrative of Broadway show from the history of Broadway. It developed from the idea of what has been deemed by Show Business Weekly as an entertaining and invaluable jewel embedded within the cabaret crown of NYC. Broadway by the Year tickets sales have been soaring and its stellar reviews have also included the likes of New York Times, where the latter has called it breezily paced, witty, valuable, and informative, while observing that its brings the right perspective of some lighthearted nostalgia. The series was created by critic/author Scott Siegel, particularly for Town Hall, where he hosts as well as writes.  He has taken audiences from all age groups on a wonderful musical tour of the famous Great White Way, through which he has offered a fascinating account of Broadway from its very early days. Each evening of the series, celebrates the most loved songs from Broadway performances of a chosen year that are sung by the cast of Broadway and cabaret performers. The years selected for the series include 1964, 1957, 1951, 1943, 1940 and 1933, while alongside it is featuring stars like Mark Coffin, Sharon McNight, Chip Zien, Bryan Batt, Sally Mayes, Davis Gaines, Heather MacRae and Liz Callaway.
 
Author of the Broadway by the Year series, Siegel has put the musicals of a particular year in context of stage, setting and time, so that we get to see selections from Donnybrook, Carnival, The Gay Life, How to Succeed Business Without Trying Too Hard, Happiest Girl of the World, Kean, Let IT Ride, Kwamina, Milk and Honey, Sail Away, and Subways Are For Sleeping. These are the shows that sparkled up the Great White Way of 1961. Since Siegel knows an enormous depth about Broadway, he has written, created as well as hosted the series while also bringing musicians and vocalists on stage to perform some of the most memorable songs from every show.  
 
Broadway by the Year has been choreographed and directed by Jeffry Denman, who has played some of the most notable numbers such as When You Want Me along with her wife. He has also done a solo that has led the company to Brotherhood of Man. The show has also been directed by Scott Coulter who did a great job with the song His Own Little Island alongside Felipe Tavolaro and Denman. Coulter did a solo number called Her Face which was taken from Carnival, and turned out to be simply magnificent, topping the show with new energy. Also performing on the show was Kerry O’Malley who did less than a couple of memorable tune from the barley popular musical Kwamina that closed only after thirty days. Other songs have been played by Christine Andreas who has brought much elegance with her voice and beautiful phrasing of Adrift on a Star and Sail Away, but the strongest portion of the show is that of Emily Skinner sang Why Do Wrong People Travel. Noel Coward has expressed sentiments in this song that still quite relevant today.
 
Broadway by the Year has gained quite a bit of attention from the critics who have been raving about its song selections, performers and music. Huffington Post has described simply as ‘Catnip for theater fans’, while NY Theatre Wire has quoted it to be ‘a widely varied, hugely absorbing evening of wit and song’. Another step further in all the praise pouring forth, Next Magazine has called it ‘a certified hit’.
